DESIGN BRIEF
Our clients engaged IM Design House to reimagine the heart of the main floor of their Mile End triplex conversion—creating a highly functional kitchen and adjoining mudroom tailored to the rhythms of family life, while preserving the character of the original home.
They arrived with a vision of a fully open kitchen and a generous central island. Our role was to reinterpret that vision within the true proportions of a Mile End triplex—narrow, load-bearing and rich with original character—translating openness into a long, linear island that preserves flow and connection without asking the building to be something it isn’t.
Our scope focused on the kitchen and adjacent mudroom, encompassing space planning, materials, lighting, custom cabinetry, hardware and integrated storage solutions. Every decision was guided by the realities of a historic Montréal triplex and the practical needs of a busy family of five.
The result is a warm, considered space—one that reads as an evolution of the home’s original character, not an insertion against it.
